Download and install Android Auto in 5 steps
Android Auto is not officially available in the Netherlands. Officially then, because it is child’s play to put the simplified Android version for behind the wheel on your smartphone via a detour. In this article, we explain how to download and install Android Auto. That is how it works:
- To prepare
Download the free app ‘Droid Hardware Info’ from the Play Store and open the app;
- Which processor do you have?
Accept the permissions and click on the second tab: “System”. Write down what is written after “Instruction Series”. In my case it is “arm64-v8a” .;
- Download Android Auto
Exit the Droid Hardware Info app and on your Android smartphone, go to APK Mirror and select the latest Android Auto update;
- Choose the correct version
Choose the right variant for your smartphone on the basis of the previously noted Instruction Series. So in the example this is arm64-v8a;
- to install
Give permission to download the apk file, then wait a while and choose to install the app.
Is it not working? Then try downloading a different Android Auto version by choosing a different version from the list on APK Mirror. It may also pay off to download Android Auto from another website, such as APK Pure. You need at least Android 5.0 (Lollipop) to put Google’s on-the-go platform on your smartphone.

Does not it work?
Do you receive a notification asking if you want to update Android Auto? Which can! In that case, Android Auto is already installed on your smartphone. This is especially the case with recent Android phones, which run on Android 10 and Android 11.
Install Android Auto in your car
Is Android Auto on your phone? Then it is then a matter of connecting. Connect your phone to your car with a USB cable and Android Auto should start immediately.
The simplified version of the operating system appears on the phone screen, or the built-in display of your dashboard. Do you use Android Auto on your smartphone? Then use a holder to secure the device: after all, it is forbidden to use your phone while on the road.
Android Auto works in these cars
Not all cars can work with Android Auto. The official website has a list of all supported car models. It now contains more than 500 cars, including cars from Audi, Citroën, Opel and Peugeot.
In general, cars that were made before 2015 not to work with Android Auto. In addition, owners of BMWs and Toyotas are also out of luck: these brands do not (yet) support the operating system.
