Stadia missed its player goals by the hundreds of thousands
Google is struggling to find success with Stadia, so much so that the group has missed its goal of players by the hundreds of thousands according to Bloomberg. The group actually expected to have a lot of people on their cloud gaming platform. This is anything but the case.
It’s not just for the number of players where Google missed its targets for Stadia. This also applies to sales for the controller. This is available at a price of 69 euros.
Google got bigger-than-belly eyes with Stadia
Stadia is anything but perfect and the developers who work on Stadia know it. Several of them knew in advance that the service was not ready when it launched in late 2019. They wanted Google to talk about a beta service, but the company did not choose this. management and never told the public that major bugs could appear. Opposite, Microsoft first launched xCloud in beta. Amazon has done the same with its Luna service.
The most important thing about a cloud gaming service or a console is the game catalog. In the case of Stadia, the catalog was initially more than light. This is still the case in reality, despite a few flagship titles. Red Dead Redemption II, for example, is available on Stadia and Google paid Rockstar Games $ 10 million for the studio to port it to the cloud gaming platform. This is not the only one: Google has also paid millions of dollars to several studios to have their games. Unfortunately for the group, the expenses exceeded the cash flow.
What future for Stadia?
Recently, Google announced the closure of its game development studios for Stadia. The cloud gaming service will therefore offer third-party games and not games first-party. The interest will therefore be limited for players, since the titles that will be available on it will also be accessible on consoles and PC. But Google assures us: Stadia remains in place.
