iPad Pros 2024 significantly more expensive
The iPad Pros that appear in 2024 will most likely no longer have an LCD or mini-LED screen, but an OLED screen. However, according to a message from the Korean website The Elec, they will be much more expensive than current OLED devices of the same dimensions.
The reason for the significantly higher price of the iPad Pros 2024 has everything to do with a new production process and high material costs. Apple is currently negotiating with Samsung and LG Display about the price of the panels. These new panels require production processes that have not previously been combined for OLED panels of such dimensions.
One of the new manufacturing processes is the use of two emission layers, doubling the brightness and quadrupling the life of the screen. Another process is the use of low-temperature LTPO Thin Film Transistors (TFT), which should make switching individual pixels on and off more energy-efficient. Finally, a new hybrid OLED structure ensures that the panel becomes thinner.
The prices of OLED panels
According to The Elec, the price of an OLED panel for existing 10-inch devices is between $100 and $150. Due to the new processes, the prices of the 11.1-inch and 13-inch OLED panels that Apple needs for the iPad Pros in 2024 are around $270 and $350 respectively.
It is very likely that Apple will pass on the higher production costs in the price of the new iPads. It’s hard to say how much more expensive they will be.
