5G for the Grand Paris Express Metro line (Line 15)

The Paris metro will finally switch to the 5G mobile network. This development concerns only one train for the moment: the future line 15, that of the Grand Paris Express, will benefit from access to the 5G mobile network in each of the 16 stations served, from Pont de Sèvres to Noisy-Champs. The infrastructure of this 5G network will be set up by Totem, a subsidiary of Orange, for an overall cost estimated at 10 million euros.

5G being taken into account from the design of the project, its installation will probably not experience the same difficulties as the work for 4G. Integrating 4G into the Paris metro was no picnic, but this time there shouldn’t be any hiccups. Totem plans to install nearly a thousand 5G connection devices to cover the 33 km route of line 15. Two network boxes will thus be installed every 400 meters of tunnel section.

For the user and user of the metro, access to 5G in line 15 will be totally transparent: the network infrastructures put in place by Totem will be offered for rent to the various operators.
