Zwanger & Co: ‘Do you finally have a sperm donor, you will meet the love of your life’

Four pregnancies, (almost) mothers, fathers and (great) grandfathers; all in one family. From twenty-somethings, who start having children brashly and with fresh energy, to a mother with empty nest syndrome who does everything to enjoy a baby at home one more time.

How many family members can fit on one pink cloud? As a midwife, Merel knows that she cannot wait indefinitely with her wish to have children, only the perfect man is nowhere to be seen. Her family is growing rapidly and the parents-to-be are put to the test. Forty-somethings Annet and Theo try to have another baby with the necessary help, but then daughter Eva suddenly turns out to be pregnant unplanned. Despite his age, Piet throws himself into his daddy’s day and tries to make up for what he missed in his first leg with his second leg. Merel eventually decides to go for single motherhood, but just when the test gives a plus, and the hormones are coursing through her body, there is suddenly the charming ambulance brother Luuk who turns her life upside down. Same situation: being pregnant. But everyone has a different view of that new life that is growing. A wonderful film that will hit cinemas in July.

The cast alone is reason enough to see this film on the big screen: Lieke van Lexmond, Waldemar Torenstra, Maaike Martens, Carolina Dijkhuizen, Matteo van der Grijn, Thom Hoffman, Beppie Melissen, Bo Maerten, Manuel Broekman. They experience a lot of special things around pregnancies: you fall from surprise to surprise. Nice with a dose of healthy humor, because let’s not take life too seriously. Until you give birth, then. Then life is no fun at all.

The film was conceived by executive producer Daan Mollema (In love with Cuba), it was written by Aliefka Bijlsma (Moroccan Wedding) and Jacqueline Epskamp (away from you) is produced by Ingmar Menning (The Lice Mother) and directed by Johan Nijenhuis (The Legs of Saint Hildegard)† The production is partly realized with contributions from the Netherlands Film Production Incentive and the Abraham Tuschinski Fund. Dutch FilmWorks will release the film in Dutch cinemas. Pregnant & Co is powered by Kek Mama, TLC, Maza and Beter Bed.

From 7 July in Dutch cinemas, but here’s the trailer. Enjoy!
