Zero Covid, zero iPhone: Merry Christmas from Apple!
Christmas is coming and we will have to think about making presents. Thinking of giving your little one an iPhone because he deserves it? After all, he’s 6 years old and he deserves as much as anyone else to have a phone that costs the price of a small used car. However, a headache could cut you off in your tracks when a shortage of Apple devices could quickly affect the entire planet.
Apple: a piece of cake not big enough
It is in fact in China that the iPhones are made, in particular in the Foxconn Technology Group factory, one of the largest in the world in charge of mounting smartphones from the apple brand. The problem with the latter is that it is affected by a heavy social movement since the beginning of October. The workers who work there are therefore asking for an increase in their wages and want better working conditions. An unusual situation in a country where the workers are used to not brandishing the labor law very often, but there are also disputes linked to the “zero Covid” policy of the Chinese government which seriously hampers individual freedoms.
In short, the cup is full and for the past few days, however, the conflict has taken on a new dimension while 20,000 workers went on strike. This could reduce iPhone production by 30%! According to analysts, it would take 37 days to get a latest generation iPhone.

Even if we don’t worry too much about Apple’s financial health, this is still quite a blow a few weeks before the Christmas holidays. Imagine the face of this teenager who thought he had an iPhone 14 and who will only have a refurbished 13!
Yes, we too, it brings tears to our eyes. Really these Chinese workers are heartless…
