YouTube is gradually rolling out a major upgrade

In a blog post, YouTube, the most popular video platform on the internet, announced that it will update both the appearance and certain features in its apps. The service has been trying out these innovations for some time with the Premium users of the service, but now it finally dares to roll out the innovations for the whole world.

In any case, we are happy that the new YouTube update on iOS does not have to miss any exclusive features. Read on to find out how YouTube is going to change visually and what features the video giant is adding to the app.

YouTube’s Visual Update

We always had a dark theme for the videos app, but YouTube is now taking it a step further. The dark is now really pitch dark. Ideal for the phones with a mini-LED screen, where black colors mean that the pixels are really off. In addition, Ambient Mode is the new major visual innovation of the YouTube app.

The ‘Ambient Mode’ introduces a subtle effect to the look of YouTube. The background color of the app adapts to the video. Think of the LED strips that can be stuck behind some televisions and color in the background of the image. In addition, some buttons, such as the subscribe and share buttons, have been given a new coat of paint to make them more noticeable.

New features of the YouTube iOS app

On iOS, iPhone users can now pinch to zoom when they turn their phone a quarter turn. This way you can easily view smaller things in a movie. The big advantage is that the image remains zoomed in. You can with this pinch-to-zoom zoom in up to eight times. Very useful for when you watch tutorials, for example.

YouTube is also introducing a new feature called ‘Precise seeking’. This function takes effect when you watch a movie and makes it easier to scroll through a movie and find the right chapter. If you swipe up, you’ll see a row of thumbnails. From there you can tap exactly the right time where you want to resume the video. This is particularly useful for the YouTube app on iPad, which now lets you awkwardly switch apps instead of zapping through the movie.

When will YouTube roll out this update?

It seems to be a while before you can actually try this update from YouTube on iOS. YouTube seems to need some time to roll it out worldwide. We expect this Youtube update to be available on iOS sometime in the next two weeks.
