Apple is finally delivering on a promise

Apple continues to work on the current operating system for the iPhone and meanwhile announces another service update with iOS 16.2. With the future update, the manufacturer is finally making good on a promise it made to users in the summer.

Already with iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1, Apple was able to deliver a number of missing features, functions that were already shown at the developer fair in the summer, but which were still held back. But not all promises have been kept, this will change with the update to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2 and macOS Ventura 13.1, which is already in progress.

Apple’s cross-platform productivity app for iPhone, iPad and Mac is celebrating its premiere with future system updates. Freeform is great for collaboration, not just for note-taking. The app is a kind of networked whiteboard for visualizing ideas and much more.

The picture of iOS 16 that Apple showed in the summer is slowly becoming complete step by step:

But Freeform is not the only promise that Apple will keep with iOS 16.2. Numerous other features and functions can already be found in the first developer version:

  • matter: Along with HomePod software version 16.2, iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS Ventura 13.1 now support an updated Home app architecture. This goes hand in hand with the introduction of the new smart home standard, Matter.
  • Stage manager: The new Stage Manager in iPadOS 16.2 is now working again along with external displays be used. Previously, Apple shelved this feature to bring Stage Manager to older iPad Pros with A12X and A12Z as well. However, external display support requires an M1 or M2 chip.

In addition, there are minor adjustments such as Apple’s recording of accidental SOS calls in the update. More of these will surely appear in the coming weeks and will be known with the following beta versions.

When can iO 16.2 be expected to be released?

As is well known, Apple does not provide any information on the possible release date of iOS 16.2 and Co. However, if you take the previous versions of the iPhone operating system as a model, then a release this year is conceivable. To be more precise: the beginning of December is quite likely, because Apple still promises a release for the Freeform app on its own website this year.
