YouTube indefinitely suspends President Trump’s channel

The YouTube channel of US President Donald Trump has been suspended. He cannot upload videos for at least a week and the comments are also inaccessible. The measure came after the president uploaded content that violates the platform’s policies.

Update 01/20: According to CNBC, the suspension of the president’s account has been extended by one week.

YouTube account Trump

YouTube has taken steps against US President Trump’s channel. The president wanted to upload content that violates the policies of the video platform. “After review, and for fear of further potential violence, we removed content added to Donald J. Trump’s account for violating our policies.” That explains YouTube in a tweet. The channel now has its first strike and temporarily cannot upload new content for at least seven days.

YouTube also says that for fear of violence in the US, it is turning off the comments under the videos of the US president. YouTube stresses that it has done this before with other channels where security risks have been found in the comment section.

Not the first time

It is also clear that it is not the first time that Trump has violated YouTube rules, as Trump immediately took his first strike. When you violate the rules you will first receive a warning from YouTube, but the second time you do that you will receive a so-called strike. YouTube will permanently delete your account on a third strike. Normally, after a first strike, Youtubers automatically get access to their channel again after a week, but with President Trump it can take a little longer for fear of violence. The deadline has now been extended by one week.

Earlier, Twitter also took strict measures against the president of the United States, because Trump also no longer has access to his account on the social network. Those actions came after Twitter was previously forced to remove a series of tweets from the president, and after Trump called on his supporters to go to the Capitol, resulting in assaults. Today Joe Biden will take over from President Donald Trump from 5:30 p.m. It remains to be seen whether Trump’s YouTube channel will soon have as much reach as during his tenure. What do you think?
