Razer Unveils Android Gaming Handheld Razer Edge

Following Nintendo with Switch and Valve with Steamdeck, Razer has now announced its own gaming handheld: Razer Edge. The device runs on Android and is intended for gaming on the go.

Like Nintendo Switch, you can also remove the controllers from the side so you can use the device as a tablet. You can cloud gaming with it, which means that you stream a game that is on a server (like Netflix). A well-known game service that offers cloud gaming is Xbox Game Pass, where brand new games can be played immediately upon release for a fixed amount per month. It’s hugely popular right now, so it’s smart that Razer is capitalizing on this with its new gaming device.

Furthermore, it is an Android gadget, so you also have the apps and games from the Google Play Store at your disposal. Inside is a Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 developed exclusively for Razer Edge. Compared to the Snapdragon 720G, it can achieve 2x3x as much speed. The screen is a 6.8 inch 2400 x 1080 amoled screen with a refresh rate of 144Hz.

Thanks to the 5000mAh battery, you should be able to play for hours on it, although it is not specified how many hours. At least as important, however, is the update policy: Razer promises that the device running Android 12 will be regularly updated, although it’s unclear what that means. There is also 128GB of storage and -handy- the controller also has buttons that you can program yourself. The controller is called Kishi V2 Pro and may eventually also be available separately, so that you can also play (cloud) games with it on other devices.

The device costs 399 dollars, which would be converted to 410 euros. It’s available through US Verizon, so we doubt it’s coming to the rest of the world. He will appear in January 2023.
