First generation iPhone is worth gold
An unopened first-generation iPhone from 2007 went under the hammer at the American company LCG Auctions. It is an 8 GB storage iPhone model released on June 29, 2007 and retailed for $599 at the time.
The auction started on February 2nd and the starting price was $2500. 27 bids followed for the sealed smartphone, with a staggering $63,356.40 being the final bid. Never before has a ‘vintage’ iPhone brought in so much money. The previous record was $39,339.60. This was also one Factory Sealed iPhone from 2007, with 8 GB storage.
The unused iPhone belonged to American Karen Green, who received it as a gift from friends in 2007. Since the original iPhone was only compatible with carrier AT&T and she was a Verizon customer, she tucked it away unopened in a closet. That turned out to be a golden move, because it yielded her a lot of pocket money sixteen years later. She wants to invest the money in her tattoo studio in New Jersey.
6.1 million copies
The first generation iPhone is a collector’s item, but don’t count yourself rich if you find a copy in the attic. The antique iPhone only provides the necessary cracks if it is sealed in the original packaging. The first generation iPhone has been sold about 6.1 million times, so there are plenty of them around. Used devices yield a few tens at the most.
Although the device yielded more than any iPhone, the specifications are modest. The first generation iPhone from 2017 has a 3.5-inch screen, with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Photography is done with a 2-megapixel camera and mobile internet is done over the 2G network.
