The 9 euro ticket is finally here. This is a real relief for commuters from day 1. You probably won’t get back to work and back home that cheap any time soon. But if you want to travel with the cheap ticket, you should plan ahead. If you simply want to go further afield, there are some routes that are particularly suitable.

The 9 euro ticket is here. Whether for a shopping trip to the city center, for commuters on the way to work or on the way to a well-deserved vacation – all this for only 9 euros a month. If you opt for the 9-euro ticket, you have to put up with the fact that the supposedly fast long-distance trains such as IC and ICE remain blocked, but longer distances are not excluded.

On the one hand, you can do without long-distance transport for your chosen destination. However, you may have to accept that you will have to change trains many times, for example if you want to travel from Schleswig-Holstein to Bavaria. The longest journey with the 9-euro ticket without having to change trains is, according to data from Comparison.org (via extra) between Rostock and Elsterwerda possible. 390 km are you on the road in the RE5? Anyone who drives the route needs staying power, it takes almost 5 hours.

On the other hand, 9-euro ticket holders can travel at unrivaled prices. Compared to one of the other long RE routes between Lübeck and Szczecin, there are almost 100 kilometers more. If everything goes according to plan, this journey will take an additional 10 minutes. But it is the only RE route that also takes you across the German border with the 9-euro ticket.
