You can now use Passkeys for Google Workspace Beta

Have you already set up your Google account to use Passkeys? At this time, Google is rolling out the feature to Workspace and Cloud users using the Beta. With Passkeys you can use your smartphone or other device as a login method, because a kind of key is built in that you can unlock with your biometric data.

Passkeys

Soon you will no longer have to log in with your password, because you can simply unlock your computer or phone as you always do (for example, you can use a PIN code, face scan or fingerprint scan). In terms of privacy, this biometric data is not sent to Google, Google indicates, it is just that the system knows through your correct login that it is ‘good’ and can therefore provide access to your Google Workspace.

Passkeys have been available on personal accounts for a few weeks now, but now Google is also moving in the direction of Gmail and Google Drive. A little more on the business side: Passkeys are gradually being made available to 9 million organizations, such as companies, governments and schools. It’s a first, according to Google: No major, publicly available cloud provider has yet brought this technology to the general public, and Google is now doing so.

Be that as it may, Passkeys are there to improve your privacy and at the same time make it more attractive to log in quickly and easily. The advantage is that you no longer have to remember or write down passwords and someone cannot give themselves access with your password: your biometric data or at least your device is needed. You can use the Google Passkeys in many places: Android, ChromeOS, iOS, MacOS, Chrome, Safari, Edge and Windows. But be patient: it is still being rolled out so you may have to wait a while. Other companies have also been implementing Passkeys more often recently, such as Bitwarden, among others.

We haven’t come across it yet at the editors, those Passkeys from the Google Workspace Beta. You do? Leave it now in the comments.
