You can now stream app from select Android phones

The update for ChromeOS has arrived: M115. This ensures that you can stream apps from your Android phone. There is a catch, however: it does not work on all devices. You can download the update now and it also includes a new, very useful feature that lets you sign PDFs by hand.

Stream apps to your Chromebook

Currently, you can only use the ChromeOS app streaming feature from your Android phone if you have a Pixel 4 or newer, or if you’re using a Xiaomi 12 T, 12 T Pro, 13, or 13 Pro, provided they run Android 13. It is not known whether it is intended that it will be possible on more phones in the future.

Google writes: “You can now perform quick tasks like answering a call, checking the status of a rideshare or delivery, and editing your shopping list by streaming the apps from your Android phone to your Chromebook. To use App Streaming, make sure Phone Hub is enabled on your Chromebook.”

Enable phone hub

To use the Phone Hub you need a Chromebook with M89 or higher, in combination with an Android phone on Android 5.1 or higher. How to enable the Phone Hub on a Chromebook:

  1. Select the phone icon at the bottom right of your Chromebook
  2. Click ‘Get Started’
  3. Click Accept and Continue
  4. Go to Connected devices and click Set up next to the Android phone
  5. Follow the steps Chromebook provides for setting up the Phone Hub
  6. Click Done.

Every time you tap the phone icon on your Chromebook next time, you can do all sorts of things on your phone, but also – if you have the right phone and Chrome update – stream apps to your Chromebook. All this only works if both the device and the Chromebook are logged in to the same WiFi network.
