Yes! Faster internet is coming for everyone

Good news, faster internet is coming. Yes indeed, again. But this is why it matters to you too.

Faster wireless connectivity is headed our way. First there was Wi-Fi 6 and now the next generation is already on its way. Wi-Fi 7 will mainly get an upgrade in speed. Of course we are all waiting for that.

faster internet

The speed upgrade, i.e. hardware that supports the standard, will be able to transfer data through the air faster than ever. Technically, we are talking about IEEE 802.11be, with the official Wi-Fi 7 name expected to be announced in the near future.

The new standard is described as promising. Not only faster speeds and more bandwidth, but also “much more revolutionary changes in Wi-Fi”. MediaTek, meanwhile, promises that the standard will be a realistic replacement for wired Ethernet connections.

Changes

Until the standard is actually embedded in the systems, some of these specifications we’re talking about are subject to change. The short summary for consumers is that more devices will have access to faster speeds for a longer period of time.

Like Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7 will operate on the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz frequency bands and support transfer rates of up to a massive 30 Gbps. This is a lot more than it is now. But as always, this is subject to all kinds of (external) factors, so usually you don’t get this speed in your home. Yet it is a leap forward, so you will certainly get faster internet via Wi-Fi.
