Xiaomi comes with fingerprint scanner everywhere in the screen

Chinese tech supplier Xiaomi has filed a patent that allows the entire phone screen to recognize a fingerprint. The idea is that with this you no longer have to put your finger in a specific place to unlock something, but you can do it anywhere on the screen.

Fingerprint Scanners

When in-screen fingerprint scanners just became popular, there was plenty of development in this area. However, it has been a bit quiet when it comes to this technology in the last few years. The focus is more on the screen refresh rate and the cameras. The fact that we hear little about it does not mean that nothing is in development, as Xiaomi proves.

It has filed a patent for a fingerprint recognition system that resides in the screen of your smartphone. Not in one place, but across the entire screen.

Xiaomi

Gizchina writes that Xiaomi uses a network of integrated infrared LEDs that sit between the touch layer and the AMOLED screen. The receivers are located under the screen and together form a network with which, wherever you place your finger, it can still be verified that it is the fingerprint that is known on the device.

That would be very handy, because especially if you operate a phone with one hand, then it is sometimes quite a bit of twisting with your fingers to both continue to hold your device and to unlock it.

Infra-red

This is because the infrared shines and thus determines which edges do press on your phone and which do not: after all, your fingerprint consists of grooves and although these are sometimes difficult to see for the naked eye, this is clear to the technology in telephones.

Interesting technology, which Xiaomi may be the first with. Huawei has developed a similar function, but it is not used commercially. Huawei also seems to work slightly differently.
