What is Wordle?
Wordle is a word game that you can play in the browser on your phone or your Chromebook. You can compare it with Lingo, because in this word game you also have to guess a word with five letters. So you start by typing a random five letter word. Do you then see letters in a yellow square? Those letters are good but are not in the right place yet. A green box means that the letter is correct and is in the right place.

From there you continue to guess the correct word. Until you guess the word. But beware, you only have six attempts to guess the correct word. Did you guess the word? Then you can share the result on Twitter or on other social networks or chat apps. You get one chance every day to participate. So only one word becomes available every day to guess.
Who invented Wordle?
Brooklyn software engineer Josh Wardle. Wordle is derived from his surname. According to the New York Times, the word play was born out of love. Wardle made the game for his beloved, to pass the time together during the pandemic. After playing together for a few months, they invited some relatives in a WhatsApp group. On November 1, 90 people played. More than two months later, more than 300,000 people played the word game.
Why is Wordle so popular?
According to our colleagues from IGN Benelux, this has to do with the simplicity of the game. Editor Tom
explains: “What really appeals to me personally is that you can only play this game once a day. That gives you a short distraction of a few minutes, but you don’t lose hours on it. With many other games you are often continuously busy keeping track of everything. With Wordle it’s simple. You play the game, split your score and continue what you were doing at the time.”
Is there a Dutch version of Wordle?
Yes, Wordle. Within one day, a Dutch student had already made a Dutch version of the online word game, RTL Nieuws reports. The approach is the same: guess a five-letter word in six turns or less.
According to Tom, the game is also popular because it is a shared experience for everyone. Participants play the game at the same time, and share their results. Creating an account or downloading an app is not necessary, and Wordle offers enough challenge. Nobody knows how long Wordle will remain a hype. In any case, we will continue to play and share scores.
