Woman gives birth during Metallica concert

Just before her due date, a woman in Brazil thought she would catch a concert by her favorite band Metallica. Things turned out differently: the woman gave birth to her son Luan during the concert.

Brazilian Joice Figueiró was 39 weeks pregnant when she decided to attend a Metallica concert with her husband Jaime. She even got permission from her doctors. As a precaution, she did take place in a zone for people with disabilities. The couple bought the tickets three years ago, but the concert was always postponed due to the pandemic.

During the support act there was nothing wrong, but when Metallica had just started playing Joice felt the first contractions. When there were still three songs on the playlist, Joice rang the bell with the medical team. They planned to call an ambulance, but it was too late. “Since the baby was not scheduled to come, I was afraid the medical team would not be ready,” Figueiró told The Washington Post.

Joice was transferred on a stretcher to the medical tent, which also contained a man being treated for alcohol poisoning. “They couldn’t take him away, so they put him down further on. Then they helped me with the delivery,” says Joice. While Metallica closed the concert with the song Enter Sandmanthe healthy son of Joice and Jaime was born.
