Withdraw money without a bank card, an option for ING customers

As a customer of the Dutch ING bank, it has been possible since July 3, 2023 to withdraw money without a bank card. This has been made possible with the new cash code, which makes it easy to withdraw up to 100 euros daily. Read more about using this cash code in this article.

New service in collaboration with ‘Geldmaat’

This new development would ensure that ING bank customers could simply leave their debit cards at home. You can also leave your smartphone at home, because entering the cash code goes through the ATM. However, not all ATMs offer this service. Moreover, your smartphone is required to request the pairing code. This ING service is currently only available at Geldmaat ATMs. As a customer of the ING bank, you can both withdraw and deposit banknotes without using a debit card.

ING and ABN AMRO

At ABN AMRO it is now also possible to withdraw money without a debit card by scanning a QR code. This makes it possible to withdraw an amount of up to 500 euros. This is a much higher limit than the 100 euro limit of the cash code. Although you can withdraw money with this code, it is not yet possible to deposit banknotes into your current account. At ING, as mentioned above, it is possible to deposit cash using the new cash code. Whether more banks will follow is not yet clear. However, other major Dutch banks, such as Rabobank, are interested.

How does the ING Cash Code work?

The cash code makes it easy to withdraw cash without a debit card. You can withdraw a hundred euros in cash every day. Do you want to create a code? This is possible in the ING Mobile Banking App. When you open the app, you must go through the steps to activate your personal cash code. This is valid for a maximum of one hour, although you can immediately request a new code. You can then easily and quickly withdraw money with this code.

Security of the new service

The use of the cash code is only accessible to customers aged eighteen and older. Moreover, it is absolutely not allowed to share this code with others. It is a personal code, comparable to your pin code, which you would rather not share with other people. Previously, a cash code could already be used for customers who had lost their debit card, for example, although they had to go to an ING bank to activate it. That is a thing of the past with this new service.

User friendly

Whether or not you want to use a cash code, the new cash withdrawal and deposit option brings more convenience to customers. For many, online banking and paying with a mobile phone are now indispensable. A debit card (actually all cards) seem to be used less and less. Everything is replaced by various apps and this has its advantages. This way you are less dependent on such a card and you can always withdraw money when necessary.
