With Whatsapp you can soon send video messages

For several years, users of the popular messaging service Whatsapp have been able to send voice messages to their contacts if they don’t want to type. The voice notes are not well received by everyone.

A long-awaited Whatsapp transcription service that translates voice messages into readable text is in the works. It is not known when the function will come.

Video messages discovered in Whatsapp beta

The same applies to another new feature that WhatsApp is apparently preparing for a later launch. The news page WA-Betainfo, which reports on tests of new features, now has a new way of communicating between Whatsapp users discovered.

According to WA-Betainfo, a so-called video message feature has appeared in the current beta updates for iOS and Android. Accordingly, Whatsapp users may soon be able to send video messages of up to 60 seconds.

Feature will be rolled out soon

So far, selected testers can already try out the feature. In the coming weeks, more users will be able to send video messages to each other.

You can see whether you are already able to access the new feature yourself by pressing the microphone symbol in the line intended for text messages in the Whatsapp chat area. If this turns into a video camera button, video messages can already be recorded.

Enlarge video to hear sound

Anyone who receives such a new video message must enlarge the video in order to be able to hear the corresponding sound. In order to be able to send and receive video messages, users must have downloaded the current beta test version – via the Testflight app or Google Play Store.

An advantage of video messages would be that the recipients can see that the video was just taken – in contrast to recorded videos, which are simply sent afterwards. That, according to WA-Betainfo, increases the authenticity.

Video messages are end-to-end encrypted

In addition, the video messages are end-to-end encrypted. They cannot be forwarded directly, but can be saved as a screen capture and sent later.

Software nostalgia: Do you remember these programs?

It is not known when the feature will be available to all users. Whatsapp users had to wait months or even years for some functions that had already been announced and expected.
