with Bookshelf you keep your bookworm fed

With all the measures it is not always easy to keep yourself entertained at home, but luckily you can always choose to borrow a stack of books from the library or from friends and curl up on the couch with a book. But, how do you know what you’ve already read or where you’ve left off without making dog ears? There’s an app for that: Bookshelf.

love for lists

People who watch a lot of series and movies have Trakt, beer drinkers have Untapped and travel-loving types use Tripadvisor. There are many apps in which you can build lists of a specific topic, with a lot of extra information and images. Great if you are a collector, a fan of lists, or just have a memory like a sieve.

For bookworms there is Bookshelf. This app lets you keep track of which books you still want to read, which you are reading now and which you have already read. You can specifically indicate which page you left off, so you don’t have to make dog ears or search for a bookmark. Do you listen books? You can of course also keep track of that in this handy app.

A treasure trove of books

The app is very simple, free to use and contains a wealth of books. Whether you’re looking for Dutch books or English (or foreign-language literature): chances are you’ll find it in the library (nice how that has a double meaning) of the app. You can save books with one tap and create folders to categorize them.

Handy if, for example, you have to read certain books for school, or if you want to make a list of all the penny novels you read on vacation. Or maybe you want to ‘store’ books that you still want to recommend to your friends, then you can also make a folder for that. In short: organization is the key to success in Bookshelf.

Plus, you can add books in many different ways. You can search the Bookshelf library, but also scan entire batches of books based on their ISBN (or single books). If you have a book that is not yet known in Bookshelf, you can add it manually yourself. It is even possible to make whole statistics of your behavior within the app and we are somewhat surprised that it costs nothing extra at all.

You can keep track of whether you have not only read the book, but also own it. You can also indicate whether you have a signed copy. The only thing we miss is a Netflix-like recommendation function: you can’t really come up with new books if you indicate that you have read a certain book. On the other hand, this charming app is made by a small group of people and there is no big company behind it, so in the end we are just happy with what Bookshelf can and does. Very simple, very fast and very clear. And we lived happily ever after.
