Windows 11 is the best system for games, says Microsoft -apkrig
Microsoft planned the official introduction of Windows 11 yesterday evening. Although the presentation was associated with a number of jokes, because ten days ago Microsoft leaked a private installation file and the whole world already knew the form and basic features, it was still a valuable spectacle of other details, which have not yet been discussed. And you probably won’t be surprised that part of the presentation was focused on players for whom Microsoft has prepared a few pleasant surprises compared to the possibilities of Windows 10. First of all, there will be full integration of the Xbox application directly into Windows 11, through which players will get to the Game Pass offer and will also be able to take advantage of other conveniences that the new generation of the Xbox has come up with on a large scale.
As mentioned above, with the release of Windows 11, the problem of identifying which game application you need to use at the moment should be eliminated in the first place. Xbox? Xbox Game Bar? Xbox Console Companion? No, Windows 11 has to unify everything into a single application, which will be a direct part of the system and will finally become a central place for games presented by Microsoft and Xbox. It is probably no big surprise that in the official clips demonstrating the possibilities of working on the new Windows, viewers of yesterday’s presentation could watch several games that complemented the Game Pass logo. Taking into account the overall strategy of the Microsoft gaming division, it is quite understandable that the service will be promoted in general, outside the channels intended directly for video game communication, which is on the other hand right and definitely beneficial for the customer-player. In addition, the Xbox application will fully support cross-play between the PC and the Xbox, as well as the Xbox Cloud Gaming service for streaming gaming, which is currently only available on the PC via a browser.
Windows 11 will be able to work with the part of the Velocity architecture that, in the Xbox Series – and accompanied by an SSD – takes care of fast game loading and data streaming.
As for other improvements, thanks to Windows 11, players will be able to automatically generate HDR in games if they have the appropriate hardware. Of course, it should be noted that the function is already available on Windows 10, but there it is in the preview program and when the new version of the system combines all technologies into the final whole. However, Auto HDR should continue to work in more than a thousand titles supporting the DirectX 11 and 12 APIs, and you should find the appropriate settings in color management and calibration. It is also important to add that automatically applied HDR does not reach the quality of titles in which HDR is involved natively – ie directly from the developers – but it is still a relatively satisfactory way to get to a wider range of color rendering and play games on appropriate monitors and televisions. nicer.
Even more interesting, however, is the confirmation that Windows 11 will be able to work with the part of the Velocity architecture that in the Xbox Series – and accompanied by an SSD – takes care of fast loading of games and streaming of data. It is a DirectStorage technology that decompresses graphics assets directly on the graphics card, not the processor, reducing image rendering time and game loading as such. However, Microsoft did not provide many details about the technology, and we also feel the limits on the hardware side. PC gamers will need to have at least 1TB of NVMe SSD, which is a bit strange given the storage capacity of the Xbox Series, and will only reach their full potential with an SSD that supports PCIe 4.0. So it will be some time before such fast disks become normal part of computers and before the involvement of DirectStorage in Windows will make deeper sense, but it is still an important step and a necessary preparation at the API level, without which it would not be possible to go further.
Windows 11 will be available this Christmas and will be distributed to Windows 10 owners as a free update.
