Windows 11: Faster-to-install updates are coming soon

Windows 11 will improve the update experience with the upcoming arrival of UUP (Unified Update Platform), a Microsoft system that aims to reduce the size of updates and speed up their installation.

This platform was presented for the first time last October and now it will be a reality on March 28. Thanks to the UUP, Microsoft promises downloads up to 30% smaller and therefore faster to install. Other improvements include cumulative update and feature integrations, which means less reboot time, reduced downloads and more.

Here are the benefits highlighted by Microsoft:

  • Up to 30% reduction in downloads for quality updates
  • Integration of cumulative updates with feature updates (i.e. you can be up to date with just one reboot).
  • Seamless retention of installed language packs and optional features across feature updates.
  • Reduced downloads for feature updates.
  • Automatic operating system restore during the update process.
  • End-user acquisition of language packs and optional features.

On the other hand, slow downloads and installations have been an issue that plagued Windows 11 Insider Program testers, especially the Dev channel. Recently, Microsoft said it is actively looking into the issue, and with the latest Dev Channel release, Microsoft claims to have resolved these longer than expected update times.
