Windows 11: a more complete volume mixer is in test
As it stands, Windows 11 offers a fairly basic volume mixer. Clicking on it adjusts the overall volume… and that’s it. Microsoft is currently testing a new version that allows you to have a little more control.
The new volume mixer made its debut with the build 25309 Windows 11, currently available for testing for members of the Windows Insider program using the Dev channel. Note that the feature is being rolled out, not all testers have it yet.
The updated mixer is located in the quick settings panel on the Windows taskbar, which can be accessed by clicking the volume icon. It is possible to manage the volume for this or that application, as desired. One application may have a quieter sound, where another may have a louder one, for example. Of course, the general setting is still available.
Microsoft has also added a new keyboard shortcut (Win + Ctrl + V) to directly open the mixer. The mixer allows users to quickly switch between audio outputs (headphones, speakers, etc.), as well as adjust the volume for each application and enable spatial audio technologies such as Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos.
Microsoft doesn’t say when the new volume mixer will be available to everyone on Windows 11.
