In early 2020, Germany’s Carbon Mobile announced its first phone, the Carbon 1 MK II, with a body made entirely of carbon fiber. This material, known for example from Formula 1 cars and airplanes, comes with many advantages. The phone is not only very strong, but also very light and thin. The Carbon 1 MK II weighs only 125 grams and is only 6.3 mm thick. For comparison: the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra weighs 228 grams and is 8.9 mm thick. The OnePlus Nord weighs 184 grams and is 8.2 mm thick. In addition, carbon fiber can be recycled, which makes the Carbon 1 MK II more durable than most other smartphones.
