Price of the Switch: Nintendo does not want to exclude anyone

Price increases in production and in freight costs make it more and more expensive for Nintendo to to craft new Switch consoles. In an interview with the Japanese business service Nikkei Asia, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa now explains that the players still don’t have to worry. The price of the Nintendo Switch will remain the same.

There are two reasons for this decision. For one thing, Nintendo doesn’t want to exclude anyone with Switch prices rising. After all, they would also have to take part in the competition in the entire entertainment area. The second reason is that Nintendo doesn’t want to lose momentum in console sales (source: Nike Asia).

Nintendo Switch: Not quite as many sales anymore

Nintendo now has more than 111 million copies of the Switch sold. This puts the hybrid console on the verge of overtaking the PlayStation 4 for second place in the rankings for the best-selling console of all time. The road to success has meanwhile leveled off somewhat. Furukawa expects big Switch hits like Splatoon 3 and Pokémon: Crimson and Crimson to push sales back up a bit.

Nintendo currently sells three versions of the Switch. The Nintendo Switch OLED (view on Amazon), the Nintendo Switch Lite (view on Amazon), and the original Nintendo Switch (view on Amazon). If Nintendo does not raise prices despite rising production costs, of course, your profit margin goes down. However, the manufacturer also earns a lot of money with games or online subscriptions. With the current high temperatures, Nintendo fans should also be careful: their switch could die prematurely from overheating.
