Honor is working on a foldable phone. That’s not a rumor, CEO George Zhao has already announced that. Rumor has it that it will be ready earlier than expected. Honor Magic X would already be released at the end of this year.
Huawei and Honor separated
Although Honor and Huawei are no longer together, it seems that the foldable Honor phone looks a lot like a Huawei device. A source states that the smartphone resembles Huawei’s Mate X2. That’s because the device has been in development for a long time. So long that both companies were still together at the time.
Honor Magic X is still a working title, but it wouldn’t look out of place as the final phone name. In addition, the sturdy Huawei Mate X2 scores high, so resemblance to that device can provide some folding magic. What exactly is different between the two is still unknown. Major differences are also not essential everywhere: the device can do well in the United States, where Honor is no longer banned, but Huawei is.
Survival uncertain
That is also one of the big reasons behind the split of the two companies. Huawei is still suspected of spying for the Chinese government. Honor is now away from Huawei, giving it another chance of survival. He also needs it, because the survival of Honor hung by a thread under the ailing Huawei.
A lot will therefore depend on the new releases of Honor. Is there indeed a phone that can compete with the foldable Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, then Honor can really separate from Huawei. So it can become successful on its own. Certainly with this phone, which may have already been planned before the corona pandemic, but was postponed. Then it was under the name Honor Magic Fold.
