Wi-Fi 7: on the way to 48 Gbps?
Progress does not wait: Wi-Fi 6E barely out of the oven that already Wi-Fi Alliance board on the Wi-Fi 7. 802.11be will target new heights of speed, up to 30 Gb / s or even 48 Gb / s at most, without latency and without increasing energy consumption. But what can such a flow be used for? Perhaps to provide data for the wireless home automation accessories that will proliferate in a few years, or even to always supply wirelessly, via the cloud, the hyper realistic 3D renderings of the VR headsets of the future … After all, nothing prevents fantasize.
Before getting there, we will already have to define this new standard. The Wi-Fi Alliance will soon form a working group which will begin to draft the first outlines of Wi-Fi 7 next spring. Some bases are already known: the 802.11be will share OFDMA spectral resources (like Wi-Fi -Fi 6) and will be based on 4096-QAM modulation as well as 320 MHz channels (so many abstruse terms!). New aggregation techniques should thus make it possible to multiply by 3 or 4 the current speeds of Wi-Fi 6 (!). The Wi-Fi 7 standard is expected to be finalized in 2024.
