Where’s that Apple TV Android app?

Apple TV Plus is now a really strong player in the streaming market with the Oscar win for CODA, but millions of Android users are still left out. It’s high time for an Apple TV Android app.

Read on after the ad.

Where’s that Apple TV Android app?

Apple launched an Apple TV app for Android TV a year ago, a version of Android for media players. Handy, because with this app you could not only buy and rent movies from the Apple TV Plus range, but also movies via iTunes. Until Apple removed this option last week. So it is no longer possible to spend money in the Apple TV app for Android TV.

Users now have to buy movies through an Apple device, web browser, their smart television or the game console. Very cumbersome if you don’t have Apple devices and you use Android TV, because you don’t have a ‘smart’ television. You then quickly choose eggs for your money and go to another film service.

Apple probably doesn’t want to hand over thirty percent of all purchases to Google. You know, those practices that Apple itself gets a lot of criticism about with regard to the App Store. A bit bland from the California company. Especially because Android users often have no alternative in the form of, for example, an iPad.

CODA

No Android app

What surprises me the most is that there is no Android app for Apple TV yet. Android users should watch Apple TV Plus through a web browser. It all works, but it’s far from ideal.

That’s bizarre in 2022, isn’t it? Especially now that CODA has won the Oscar for best film of the year. Android users can’t even start that movie easily, while almost every other Oscar winner is on another streaming service that is accessible to everyone.

Apple is increasingly turning into a company that provides services instead of a multinational that relies mainly on hardware sales. A service is only successful if it has many users. More users means a higher fixed monthly income. More revenue for Apple TV Plus means more space to make good series. That’s good news for everyone.

Then it doesn’t matter whether it’s Apple owners or Android owners who pay? Especially because the majority of users still consist of people who have received a free period with the purchase of an Apple device.

Apple Music is still here

Apple may still be afraid that they will sell fewer iPhones and other Apple devices. Apple may think that consumers choose Apple because they can’t watch Apple TV Plus otherwise. But I’ve never heard of anyone buying an iPhone 13 to power up The Morning Show.

Apple Music, on the other hand, is available on Android. Apple wants to compete with Spotify with its music service and that is of course difficult if you exclude the majority of smartphone users. If Apple takes its streaming service seriously and therefore wants to compete with, among others, Netflix, Disney Plus and HBO Max, then you should also appeal to Android users.

Apple Music trial subscription

And handing over the thirty percent to Google is also easy to avoid. Let users sign up for an Apple TV Plus subscription through a web browser, then simply watch Apple TV Plus series through the app. Preferably with Chromecast support too, while we’re at it.

There’s more than Apple TV Plus on Android and iPhone

In addition to Apple TV Plus, there are many more streaming services that are available on Android devices. Today there are so many that it is sometimes impossible to choose just one. iPhoned dived into the world of Netflix, Disney Plus and more before to help you make up your mind. We then already put together the 5 best streaming services of the moment with all the advantages and disadvantages.

Game of Thrones HBO Max

Right now, Netflix, Disney Plus, and HBO Max are the best alternatives to Apple TV Plus. Of these three, Netflix has the most offer, Disney Plus has many original series and HBO Max is the cheapest. Always check which streaming service has your favorite series.
