Where is the MacBook Pro 2022 – and is it worth the wait?

Yesterday, Apple presented new iPads – completely as expected. But secretly we also expected the MacBook Pro 2022 models. Where are they? And are they even worth the wait?

When are the new MacBook Pros coming?

The MacBook Pro 14- and 16-inch had their last update a year ago. Then it was a big one: both models got a completely new design, the M1 Pro or M1 Max processor and a 120 Hz display based on mini-LED.

But one year is a long time in the tech world. So the expectation was that Apple would now release updated models. Yesterday it finally seemed so. The Apple Store went offline, but when it came back online a few hours later, it only showed a new iPad, two iPad Pros, and a new Apple TV 4K. MacBook Pros? Nowhere to be seen. When will they come? And with the current price increases, is it even smart to wait? Or is it better to strike quickly?

Release MacBook Pro 2022 14- and 16-inch

We said it before: the new MacBook Pros should come soon. We had expected that for October, but apparently Apple wanted to give the iPads a little more attention now. We consider a release in October for the MacBook Pros to be very implausible, because Apple very rarely releases many products directly in succession. December is also usually a no-go for new products for Apple. And waiting until 2023 is still too long.

In short, we now expect the release somewhere in November. On November 4, the Apple TV 4K will release another new product, and Apple probably doesn’t want to get in the way. Two weeks later, Tuesday on November 15therefore seems to us the most plausible date for the launch.

Do you have to wait?

Now that we’ve answered the launch question, the more important question follows. Because is it wise to wait for the new models? If you look at the recent launches of Apple, it is noticeable that almost everything is becoming more expensive. So rest assured that the MacBook Pro 14- and 16-inch will also rise in price considerably.

Now that wouldn’t be such a problem if you also get a major update in return, but we already got the biggest changes last year.

The new MacBook Pros are expected to get a new M2 Pro and M2 Max processor. They will be a bit faster than their M1 counterparts, but you should not expect huge performance jumps. You may be able to have more RAM built in, but that is only really important for a limited target group.

Normally, we recommend everyone to wait for new Apple products when the release seems near. However, with the current price increases, our advice is different. Do you need a new MacBook Pro? Make sure to strike now! You won’t get much better models in a month, but pay considerably less now!
