When will the AirPods 3 come out?

The new AirPods: we dare iPhoned almost impossible to write about. There has been a lot of speculation about the new Apple earbuds in recent years, but there has been no official unveiling yet.

And that is strange, because we have seen the AirPods 3 very often. The earplugs have been leaked several times, those involved have talked over their mouths and the number of renders (computer animations) is unstoppable.

Fortunately, things finally seem to be moving forward. According to website DigiTimes the next AirPods along with the iPhone 13 will be unveiled in September. An exact date is still in the pipeline, but we expect this event to take place on September 7 or 14.

DigiTimes has not always proved to be a reliable source. Sometimes the Taiwanese website was right, but they were also regularly wrong in recent years. Still, this time we are more confident in their predictions than usual.

Two birds with one stone

That’s because Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman recently wrote that the AirPods 3 will be released in 2021. In fact, mass production seems to start in August. If this is true, then it seems only logical for Apple to show the earbuds on the big stage at the iPhone 13 event for the first time.

But again: we don’t dare to say anything with certainty anymore. The AirPods were last refreshed in 2019. Since then, there has actually been speculation about the arrival of a new version. First, the earbuds would come out at the end of 2020, around the same period as the iPhone 12 devices.

After that, a reveal in the spring of 2021 seemed plausible, but the AirPods 3 were hiding. Then all eyes turned to WWDC 2021, Apple’s annual software conference. But unfortunately, this fair was really only about software: we got to see iOS 15 and macOS 12, among other things.

It should be clear: we are now ready for new AirPods. Thanks to leaked information, we know that the earbuds draw more towards the AirPods Pro in terms of design. So expect shorter stems and a different fit. The charging box would also be given a fresh look.
