WheelBees is a license plate social medium

There are many apps you can use related to your car. The ANWB app, Google Maps, Waze, apps to sell cars, the app with which you can control your car: you name it. What was not there yet, however, is an app that is a kind of social medium for car enthusiasts, based entirely on license plate. In the App of the Week we discuss the new WheelBees app.

The idea is that you register yourself with your car, so that people who search on your license plate can find you. The idea is that, for example, if you see someone driving by, you can send a warning that his or her rear light is broken. There is a chat system attached to it with which you can send each other a message.

It is also possible that you see a super cool car driving, or see someone driving a car from a certain company in which you are interested. Even then you only have to remember the license plate (or photograph it, if you are not driving) and you can ask that person a question about the company or the car. Maybe someone is standing in front of you at the charging station and you want to check how long that person is still working. You can also ask that by using the app.

You can also use the map instead of the search function, on which you will see all kinds of cars around you. Tap it and you will see what kind of car it is, what license plate it has and who belongs to it. What we mainly encountered in our search were some empty accounts, and accounts of people who are really car fans. But more often the type of tuned car with rally name on the side, than the type of company lease Tesla. Very pleasant, especially people who enjoy talking about cars, but the charging point dexterity is lost.

On the other hand, this app still has to grow considerably and we won’t be surprised if that happens. We do wonder, however, whether many people are willing to share so much information about themselves. Even without an account you can see all kinds of people on the map with their name and surname and even photos of the car on the platform. That can also cause privacy problems, although it is of course up to you whether you use your real name there (probably better not). It is better to create an account so that you can chat with people. You can also go for a paid account, where you can add more vehicles, change your icon and increase the range of the map.

It can go either way

Don’t get me wrong: the idea of ​​this app is very likeable. You can help people who have problems with their car and thus make the road safer together. And, although the makers do not focus on this, you can also send someone a message after a game of intense file flirting. That saves complicated dealing with telephone numbers. However, the app is mainly about the more practical part. Let them know that someone is driving around with 50 centimeters of snow on their roof, that there is something in the door or perhaps even give a tip if you are both stuck in a traffic jam and think that person is going to the same event. There are many great applications for WheelBees, but the question is whether the app can not be used too easily for perhaps less positive things. Just you road rage express to someone in an app, for example. And again: what about privacy? You can of course partly control that yourself, but there are quite a few people on the platform that are quite recognizable, with their car, so it is easier for malicious parties to find them.

Hopefully, however, this app will be used well, because that is the approach of creator Furkan Yilmaz. This is also clearly visible in the way the app looks and communicates. Really something for car enthusiasts: there are even car meetings in the app.
