WhatsApp will stop backing up to Google Drive for free

A remarkable and interesting step of WhatsApp. Until now, you could always store your backups online in the Google Drive cloud. Handy, because that way you could always reach it. But according to the latest reports, that free storage space is coming to an end.

No unlimited space in the Drive

Google and Facebook signed a deal several years ago that allowed WhatsApp users to enjoy unlimited storage space for backing up chat history. That fun will soon come to an end, the usually well-informed WAbetainfo reports. They state that a storage limit will be applied in the future. That is a thing for the avid WhatsApp user; because you may not be able to meet that limit.

According to the source, it is possible that Google would like to introduce a limit of 2000MB for the WhatsApp backups. That space would then be offered for free. If this step is taken, there is a good chance that the more used storage space will be deducted from your drive space.

Another feature under development also has to do with backing up your messages. Soon it should be possible for users to manage the backup size. This can be seen in the screenshot above.
