WhatsApp rolls out very well-known ‘new’ function
A new function is making its appearance in WhatsApp, but it is a very well-known one. It is actually quite useful.
The company recognizes that people are using the chat app as more than a personal communication tool. That’s why the company is introducing a new Community feature that can bring your existing groups of a similar nature together under one umbrella. Handy for sure, but not really new.
New feature WhatsApp
We already know the feature from other platforms. It is new for WhatsApp. With the function you can combine different groups that are related to, for example, your residential complex, under one community.
The messaging service says this new feature will also provide tools such as intergroup announcement messages. “We think this feature will make it easier for a school principal to bring all the parents of the school together. To share updates they need to read and to set up groups on specific classes, extracurricular activities, or volunteer needs.
Communities
Communities will also include powerful new tools for administrators. This includes announcement messages that are sent to everyone and control over which groups can be included. Owner of the service is Meta (formerly Facebook). Mark Zuckerberg said the company will be slow to roll out to the communities, so we can expect this feature to be of limited use in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp is quite late in rolling out features, which some of the other popular messaging apps already have. It’s no different with this feature. Namely, it is akin to creating Discord or Slack servers. But still, many people do not use these platforms, so this option within WhatsApp is an addition.
