WhatsApp on multiple smartphones now available to everyone

From today you can link one WhatsApp account to four smartphones. The feature was already available to the beta users of the app two weeks ago, starting today everyone can use it.

One account on multiple smartphones

A wish of many WhatsApp users is finally coming true, as from today you can link your account to multiple smartphones. This was not possible until now, although beta users were able to use the function about two weeks ago. In addition, it was possible to connect WhatsApp to your laptop through WhatsApp Web. By scanning a QR code on your laptop you can synchronize your WhatsApp account with your laptop. This same principle now works with connecting one WhatsApp account to multiple smartphones.

Process becomes even easier

WhatsApp also reports that they want to make this process simpler and more accessible. For example, it should be possible to enter your telephone number on WhatsApp Web, which will give you a one-time code. You can use this code to connect multiple devices. This should then come as an alternative to the QR code. WhatsApp expresses the hope of making multiple devices available to connect to your account in the future. The one-time code feature should be available in the coming weeks.

Still end-to-end encrypted?

Each paired smartphone makes its own separate connection to WhatsApp. As a result, all messages, calls and media you send or receive remain end-to-end encrypted. This means that only the sender and the receiver can read and see the content of the chats. If your primary smartphone remains inactive for an extended period of time, it will automatically log out of all connected devices. iPhone users can also connect an Android device.

WhatsApp indicates that the feature is currently being rolled out worldwide. So everyone can use it in the coming weeks.
