WhatsApp now lets you send messages to yourself: that’s how it works

WhatsApp now lets you send messages to yourself. The function was announced earlier, but from now on you can actually use it. A useful addition for many, because you can use WhatsApp as a note app, for example, or share a photo with yourself.

Whatsapp with yourself

A new server-side update has been rolled out for messaging service WhatsApp. In the latest version, for which you do not have to download anything yourself, it is possible to WhatsApp yourself. It is striking that the function was already announced by WhatsApp at the end of November, but it still took about two months for the function to be available to everyone. The function to send a WhatsApp to yourself can be useful in various circumstances. Think for saving a note, but also for sharing a photo that you want to find quickly later.

If you want to send a message to yourself, you can do it very easily. In WhatsApp, tap the icon, with which you always compose a new message, at the bottom of the screen. You will then see your own telephone number at the top of the contact list with ‘(u)’ behind it. When you tap this, a new window opens where you can compose a message. This will of course be delivered immediately and will appear between your other messages. If you want even faster access to your own messages, you can press and hold the chat in the overview, after which you tap the pin, which puts a message at the top.

Step-by-step plan summarized

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Tap the chat icon at the bottom
  • The contacts screen opens, choose your own phone number, which is shown at the top
  • Compose the message and press send

WhatsApp says that the new function ensures that you can send messages to yourself. These messages are also visible in your WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop environment. Messages you send to yourself are protected by end-to-end encryption.
