WhatsApp lets you edit messages (but not always)

WhatsApp will soon introduce a new feature that will allow you to edit sent messages. But you can’t always do that.

Read on after the ad.

Edit WhatsApp messages

It has probably happened to you: if you have just pressed the send button on WhatsApp, you see another stupid error in the message. There is then nothing to do but leave it as is or delete the entire message and retype it.

Annoying, but it’s no different. Well, not any time soon. Because then it will finally be possible to edit messages in WhatsApp. Other chat apps like Telegram have had this option for a while. So it was quite a loss to the popular app.

WhatsApp shared a teaser showing off the feature on Twitter. According to the company, the update is currently being made available worldwide and will be available for everyone to use in the coming weeks. So you may have to wait a while before the update is ready for you.

Incidentally, you are not allowed to edit all messages in WhatsApp. There is a limitation to editing. You have 15 minutes (after sending) to edit a message. After that it is no longer possible and you can only delete the message.

When you have edited a message (within those 15 minutes), it will say ‘edited’ next to the message. This will let the recipient know that you have edited the message afterwards.

To edit a message in WhatsApp, hold your finger on the message. Then choose ‘edit’ in the menu. Then adjust the text as desired. Easy right?
