What customers need to know now

Postbank customers have to adapt to an innovation. With online banking, your bank will be using a new order confirmation procedure in the future. The previous ChipTAN procedure will not be available for much longer.

Attention Postbank customers: ChipTAN has an expiry date

There is movement in the banking business: After the savings banks and Volksbanks recently announced that they would abolish the SMS TAN and instead rely on apps or ChipTAN, changes are now also pending at Postbank. But that’s where you want to be put an end to the ChipTAN.

The Postbank will only be offering the ChipTAN procedure, in which a flickering code is read on the screen of your end device with an additional device to confirm a transfer, for a limited time. In May 2022 it should be over, an exact date is not mentioned. The reason is the progressive development towards more comfortable and safer methods of releasing online transfers.

The so-called BestSign procedure will replace the ChipTAN. It can already be used by Postbank customers, but will become mandatory in May. Customers can decide for themselves whether they want to use BestSign via an app or buy an additional device – we show how BestSign works in our article.

A The BestSign device costs between EUR 29.90 and EUR 44.90. If you want to save yourself that, you will soon have no other option but to use the app, which is available for iOS and Android.

Why Postbank customers are better off taking action immediately

Customers who have previously only made their online transfers with ChipTAN must therefore make the change. Postbank recommends not to wait until the end of ChipTAN in May, but to activate BestSign beforehand.

What you should know about the common TAN procedures in online banking:

Anyone who does not do this will no longer be able to register for online banking as usual in May (source: postal bank). Instead, the registration for the BestSign procedure is preceded. But if you don’t want to or can’t use the app, you have to Accept the waiting time for the additional device. If you don’t want to get into the unpleasant situation of not being able to make an important transfer in time, for example, you shouldn’t wait to make the change.
