Weekend away with your family? These activities in Brabant are fantastic with children

You will not only find beautiful cities and beautiful nature, but in the province of North Brabant everything is also very close together. And then there is also plenty to do for children. So you can go on a city trip in one of the Brabant cities one day, and enjoy the beautiful Loonse and Drunense dunes the next day, a bike ride in nature or a great amusement park.

And that is just a selection of what else there is to do in this great province. That is why we share the best tips with you for a wonderful weekend in North Brabant with your family.

Special art in Breda
Really do when you are in Breda: rent a bike. Not only easy to get from A to B, you can also take a tour along the Blind Walls Gallery – which consists of more than a hundred (!) murals, spread all over the city. And they are not just paintings, but stories inspired by the past, present and future of Breda.

Tilburg from a great height
Tilburg is only half an hour’s drive from Breda, a city with a completely different, more urban character. What you can do here? Well, design your own socks at it Textile Museum – believe us, your children will not see them coming. Afterwards, stroll through the Spoorpark and, if the weather is nice, settle down for a picnic. And while you’re there, climbing the Kempentoren is definitely worth it: with a height of 37 meters you have a beautiful view of the city.

Discover in Eindhoven
Museums boring? Not if you are in Eindhoven: in Motion Imagination Experience you will be immersed in cool light spectacles, exciting music and enormous floor projections. In short: a fantasy world that lends itself perfectly to some photogenic shots. Do your children like to experiment and discover more? Then you’re in a mustache The Discovery Factorywhere they get to make race cars, try out air cushions, unscrew appliances and make movies.

‘s-Hertogenbosch from the water
Another wonderful city: ‘s-Hertogenbosch, popularly known as Den Bosch. The best thing to discover from the many canals that the city has to offer – if you take such a trip on the ‘Binnendieze’, the collective name for these canals, you will sail partly under the city. Also climb St. John’s Cathedral and top off your visit with – how could it be otherwise – a Bossche Bol.

  • The major Brabant cities are all within a relatively short driving distance of each other, varying from half an hour to 45 minutes.

Sand, trees, beavers
There is also plenty to do outside the Brabant cities. For example, we already mentioned the Loonse and Drunense dunes: a vast expanse of sand where it seems as if you are in a kind of mini-desert – your child cannot wish for a larger sandbox. There are also trees – they are perfect for climbing.

You will find a completely different nature National Park de Biesbosch, which mostly consists of water. The best thing is to explore the area by supping or canoeing – with a bit of luck you will spot a beaver or white-tailed eagle. You can still do it before or after Biesbosch Museum Island where you can learn everything about water and book a trip on a silent boat.

Cycling past legends
A bike ride in Brabant is not just a trip, because all kinds of sagas and legends come to life along the way. About plundering gangs, smugglers and cursed landlords, while in the De Kempen region it is again about the exciting story of Zwarte Kaat, the Witch of Hellenende. You can therefore say a route of 36 kilometers that will not bore you for a second.

Nice walking route
Just below Breda is the Mastbos, one of the oldest cultural forests in the Netherlands, with the perfect walk for children. The walk is five kilometers long, you walk along the river Mark and encounter a real castle along the way. Oh, and we had play forest Farms already mentioned, where your children can climb and scramble to the fullest? Those who are thirsty afterwards can settle down on the Ginnekenmarkt in Breda – plenty of choice in terms of cafes and restaurants.

Audience favourites
Yes, the large and well-known attractions should of course not be missing from this fine Brabant list. And let’s face it: the Efteling is not only fun for children, but also for adults. Feast your eyes in the Fairytale Book (childhood memories guaranteed), venture on one of the exciting rollercoasters or opt for a somewhat quieter attraction and take a trip in the Gondoletta or in the children’s railway children’s pedal trains.

Another highly recommended: Beekse Bergen Safari Park. Let’s face it: where else can you spot giraffes, lions and antelopes from your own car? If you find one day too little, you can also spend the night in the brand new Safari Hotel or in it Safari Resort – and then wake up again with a view of the animals.

Children’s paradise
Rather not a hotel, but camping? Ha, that’s just as convenient: in Bergeijk (near Eindhoven) you will find Campsite de Pole, which has been voted the best children’s campsite by the ANWB. With countless playground equipment, wonderful swimming pools and top entertainment, we understand why.
