During the event on June 5, 2023, Apple presented watchOS 10. It is not a huge update, but it does contain some useful and fun new features.

watchOS 10 includes a new smart stack with relevant widgets and beautiful new watch faces. We show you the most important things to expect. watchOS 10 is now available as a developer beta. In the fall you can download the software for free.

Widgets in a smart stack

A smart stack consists of widgets that show information at the right time and adapt it to the context. This information appears when you turn the Digital Crown from any watch face. For example, you can see the weather forecast in the morning and Calendar appears at the top of the stack if you have a meeting scheduled.

Two new dials

In watchOS 10 you will find two nice new watch faces. The first is Palette, a colorful but also fairly standard dial. It’s nice that the colors change with the times. Very nice is the dial Snoopy. This watch face shows funny animations with Snoopy and Woodstock. They move and play with the hands, and react to the weather, among other things.

Misuse

When you start a cycling workout on Apple Watch with watchOS 10, the workout automatically appears as live activity on iPhone. Tap on it to view the activity in full screen. You see things like heart rate zones, altitude, route and cycling speed on your iPhone, which you can attach to your bike.

To walk

With watchOS 10, the Compass app automatically generates two new waypoints. The route point for the last mobile data connection is an estimate of the last place with mobile coverage, useful for emergencies or to check your messages.

Mental health

The Mindfulness app in watchOS 10 lets you record your emotions and moods. Simply state how you feel and how you are. In combination with registrations of, among other things, your sleep and movement, it can be determined whether you suffer from depression or anxiety (or are at risk of it).

Other updates in watchOS 10

• With NameDrop you can easily exchange contact information by holding your Apple Watch near someone else’s iPhone.
• Thanks to offline maps you can navigate and see the estimated time of arrival, among other things, when you don’t have WiFi or mobile coverage.
• Playback of FaceTime video messages can now be done on Apple Watch. FaceTime group audio is also now supported.

The beta version of watchOS 10 is available to developers starting today. A public beta will be released next month, and watchOS 10 will be available to everyone as a free software update in the fall.
