Watch out for modified versions of WhatsApp! They may contain malware

There are several modified versions of the WhatsApp chat application on the Internet that offer more features than the original version. However, like all applications from unofficial stores, these modified versions can bring threats. According to Latest Hacking News, the latest version of FMWhatsApp has found a Trojan horse that can do a variety of damage to your device, including downloading hard-to-remove xHelper malware.

A Trojan horse found in the FMWhatsApp app can deprive you of money

The threat was discovered by scientists from Kaspersky, specifically in version 16.80.0. After installation, the Trojan steals device identifiers and registers it on its server. From there, it will download other malicious software that can infect your device with xHelper malware, read your SMS messages, display ads to you, or register you to subscribe to services without your knowledge.

Watch out for customized versions of popular applications

The only guaranteed way to avoid being infected with malware in this case is to not use modified versions of applications. In addition, using your favorite service with useful features may seem tempting, but it carries the risk of data or money theft.

In general, it’s also a good idea to avoid downloading any applications from unverified sources. It’s better to stay with official app stores like the Google Play store. While it’s true that even the Play store isn’t immune to malicious apps, the problems have been with unknown small developer apps in the past. When downloading popular applications from companies such as Google or Facebook, the risk of infection is very low.
