Meta’s Twitter alternative is scheduled to launch on Thursday

Meta’s highly anticipated Twitter alternative is slated to launch later this week. Threads, as it is called, was announced for Thursday in Apple’s US App Store. Meta is considered a particularly strong rival to Twitter. The US group knows how to operate large online platforms and, unlike the long-time top dog Twitter, has no money problems in the Musk era.

A head start could also be the basis of more than a billion users who are already linked: the Threads app is connected to Instagram. With other Twitter rivals such as Mastodon, Bluesky and T2, such user networks that have grown over the years first have to be re-established. Meanwhile, Twitter is in new turbulence and is trying to convert users of its app Tweetdeck into paying subscribers.

New AI tool can create animated GIFs

There are a number of AI tools that focus on creating images: Dall‑E or Midjourney can convert even the most abstruse idea into an image. Now there is an AI-powered GIF generator that creates animated GIFs. This belongs to the image editing program Picsart.

Operation is very simple: just enter what comes to mind in the text field, wait a moment and you can admire the result. Once the desired GIF is ready, it can be downloaded directly to the device and shared with friends or on social media. Picsart himself describes the tool in a blog post as his “most out of joint” creation to date. There are no limits to creativity.

This commission recommends splitting up Deutsche Bahn

Will the current Deutsche Bahn soon be a thing of the past? In any case, the German Monopolies Commission recommends the splitting up of Deutsche Bahn. This is an independent body that advises the legislative bodies. And she is now calling for Deutsche Bahn to be split up. This should ensure more competition on the railway market and more quality at Deutsche Bahn.

Such ideas are not new. Only a short time ago, the Federal Cartel Office decided that Deutsche Bahn violated antitrust law. The group uses its market power over other mobility platforms such as Trainline or Omio. The Monopolies Commission would provide for a division of Deutsche Bahn into infrastructure and transport divisions. There should be a clear separation between the operators of this infrastructure and the users of it.

So much cryptocurrency was already stolen in 2023

Cryptocurrencies are always susceptible to hacker attacks and fraud. A recent report by the Web3 security company Beosin shows how much was lost in the first half of 2023 alone. According to this, the total value of cryptocurrencies lost through fraud, hacks and rug pulls over the six months is $656 million. 80 percent of all attacks this year took place in the defi sector, which remains the most vulnerable to hacker attacks.

Compared to previous years, however, the losses have decreased significantly: In the first half of 2023, attackers were able to steal 72 percent less money than in the second half of 2022. And significantly more stolen assets were found and returned to the users.
