Volvo wants to completely do without real leather in its new e-models

In the next few years, the change to a more sustainable behavior is urgently needed. This is the only way we can avert the worst scenarios by 2100 and also offer our children and grandchildren a safe home. Industry in many places is also recognizing this and converting its production and supply chains to environmentally friendly alternatives.

One industry for which the next few decades will be crucial is the automotive industry. While the German environmental aid company is suing manufacturers in this country because they do not want to get out of the combustion engine by the end of the decade, one of our northern neighbors is already much further ahead. One manufacturer that has already turned the corner this decade is Volvo.

Volvo has already drawn attention a few times, the car manufacturer wants to sell half of its cars fully electric by 2025, and only electric vehicles are to be sold from 2030. Now they are also going one step further with the interior and announcing that they will do without real leather as an equipment option for future E-models.

Leather will no longer be found in future Volvo electric vehicles

Instead, animal welfare and sustainability should be in the foreground. For this purpose, recycled materials will soon be used, which should be based on the same quality criteria as current models. An ambitious goal for Volvo that joins a number of other goals.

In addition to the aforementioned shift to electromobility, the manufacturer operated its first climate-neutral plant in Sweden in May, and the entire company is to be climate-neutral worldwide by 2040. So while we still rely on internal combustion engines in this country, the future is being pushed forward in Scandinavia.

Own opinion:

Volvo shows how you can still play a role as a car manufacturer in the future. In my opinion, German brands are still far too slow, even if we are already seeing the first correct steps in the VW Group. It remains to be seen how the current strategies are used in this country and whether the years of delay will one day take revenge.
