Valve would prepare a standalone VR headset competing with the Oculus Quest

If we are to believe the information reported by the YouTuber Brad lynch (and since confirmed by Ars Technica), Valve would prepare a competitor autonomous helmet of the Oculus Quest. Several references of the helmet would have been unearthed in the code of SteamVR. This model, called “Deckard” or “Lynch” internally (obvious allusions to Blade Runner and the director), would already be a functional prototype according to Ars Technica. The Deckard VR headset does not require any cable or even an external station for the recognition of movements (“inside-out” tracking). Valve would therefore equip its autonomous helmet with several cameras capable of distinguishing the movements of the hands (and undoubtedly of the fingers).

Other references, however, suggest that Valve’s VR headset could communicate over Wi-Fi with a PC, and therefore serve as a PCVR headset (again like the Oculus Quest). The lenses would be closer to the user’s eyes than in current VR headsets, which may be indicative of a fairly thin headset. Obviously, many already fantasize about a VR headset capable of connecting to Valve’s Steam Deck portable console, but no factual element today allows us to decide in this direction.
