View WhatsApp status anonymously: This is how you remain anonymous

After Instagram and Facebook, parent company Meta also introduced a stories function on WhatsApp in 2017. The Whatsapp status works in a similar way to the big social networks and has now established itself in the messenger app.

As with the sister platforms, however, there is a setting here that is unlikely to appeal to all users. Because if you upload a status to WhatsApp, you can also see exactly which contacts have viewed it.

But what if, for once, you want to remain anonymous and still want to see the status of a contact? We will show you how you can also view a WhatsApp status anonymously.

This is how you can view a WhatsApp status anonymously

As is so often the case, there are of course several possible solutions to this problem. Probably the easiest way to view a WhatsApp status anonymously is via the read receipt.

The Read receipt on WhatsApp should be known to many users as “the two blue ticks”. But if this is switched off, you remain unrecognized in WhatsApp status.

If you want to switch off the read receipt in your WhatsApp, you can do this in the settings. You will find the read receipt under data protection.

Note, however, that you will then no longer be able to see who viewed your status. The blue ticks will then no longer be displayed. However, the latter only applies to individual chats and not to group chats.

View WhatsApp status anonymously in the web browser

If you don’t want to change the setting for the read receipt in your WhatsApp, you can alternatively use the browser. To do this, first open your web browser in incognito mode.

You can now also access the status overview in the WhatsApp web view. If you go offline now, you can view WhatsApp status anonymously. However, the images and videos remain blurry, but you can read the text normally.

It’s also really complicated

If this was all too easy for you and you would rather make it really complicated, there is a third variant. To do this, you must first switch your phone to flight mode.

After viewing the desired WhatsApp status, you then need to delete the app from a phone. You can then turn off Airplane mode and reinstall the app.
