Valhalla -apkrig, head of development at EA, is working on the alleged Dead Space

For a week now, there has been lively speculation about the possible return of the horror series Dead Space. Journalist Jeff Grubb was the first to suggest this possibility, claiming that during an EA Play Live event in July, another game from one of the established brands will be announced, which he later called Dead Space. EA Motive is behind its development, which has only one completed title to its credit so far – Star Wars: Squadrons, which was subsequently commented on by a number of other magazines, and at least for the time being all indications are that a long-awaited announcement is planned for July 22. Hand in hand with these speculations, however, another part is now coming into the puzzle, and according to the Axios portal and the VGC magazine, we probably already know the name of the game director.

Some of the fans are slightly concerned about the news, considering the features of Assassin’s Creed and the game Dead Space was years ago.

He is to be Eric Baptizat, who joined EA Motive in April this year to work on a hitherto unannounced project. If the name of the developer doesn’t tell you anything, we can put it in context by noting that he spent the previous 16 years in Ubisoft. We can introduce him even more closely as a man who signed under high positions under Assassin’s Creed Origins and Black Flag and also became spare game director Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Substitute because at the beginning of 2020 he replaced Ashraf Ismail, who was forced to leave Ubisoft due to accusations of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Despite the fact that neither Ubisoft nor Electronic Arts commented on the move of Baptizata, the developer on LinkedIn confirms the change described above, including his inclusion as a game director. However, some of the fans are slightly concerned about this news, considering the features of Assassin’s Creed and the game Dead Space was years ago. However, as Axios aptly points out, one person does not play the game and the supposed reimagination of Dead Space, on the other hand, experience with the development of modern third person games could help. Baptizat’s involvement can also be interpreted as an effort by EA Motive to move a step further and finally get rid of the label of the studio, whose founder Jade Raymond failed and left the studio. Eric Baptizat’s participation is also a certain symbolism, if we take into account that the mentioned producer also came from Ubisoft.

For the Dead Space series, we can only repeat in the end that the last episode was released in 2013, four years before the Visceral Games studio was dissolved. Since then, players have been expressing their interest in the return of Dead Space in regular waves, and the wishes have been amplified by information about the fourth, but never-before-released work. As Eurogamer reminded us last week, according to former creative director Ben Wanat, the fourth part was supposed to be a hybrid between linear and nonlinear storytelling, Ellie could become a heroine instead of Isaac, survival elements would be added and new types of enemies would be encountered. The story was to follow directly on from the third part and further develop the tragedy of the protagonist, which, according to current speculation, the new project is not succeeding.
