USB-C has a new label. How do we know a quality cable now?

The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) introduced a new label of the highest quality USB-C as well as USB4 cables and connectors on the last day of September. With regard to the newly defined standards for data rates and charging power will now be certified cables as well as their sales packaging bear new logos. These are to guarantee a maximum speed of 40 Gbps, or up to 240W charging power.

“With new powerful charging options as standard USB Power Delivery 3.1which allows USB-C cables to achieve values up to 240 W, we saw an opportunity to create clearer signage for end customers. They will reliably recognize the certified cable with USB4 speed capabilities and USB PD 3.1 performance limits, ”explains USB-IF steps by its president, Jeff Ravencraft.

As you can see, one logo was created for both types of cables, however, when both conditions are met it will be possible to use their combined form. Cables certified in this way will of course be backward compatible with older devices or chargers, the USB-C terminal itself (by the way, in the EU, quite possibly soon, is mandatory) does not change. Of course, USB-IF encourages consumers to buy such certified cables with regard to quality and safety.
