Upload photos yourself and add roads in Google Maps
Google has introduced new ways in which you can contribute to Maps yourself. We know what and how.
The tech giant has come up with three ways you can help make the Maps app even more informative. But also more accurate, which is great at a time when people first check places online before they go there. Because of this, Google encourages everyone to leave more reviews about local businesses. They do this with a ‘challenge’.
‘Local Love Challange’
That’s the name of the assignment and people will be able to participate in the coming months. Then you must have an Android device and live in the US. That is unfortunate, but Google may also roll it out here in the future. In the US, at least in addition to leaving ratings and reviews, attendees can also confirm or update a restaurant’s information, such as opening hours.
Upload photos in Google Maps
That’s cool, uploading your own photos after a dinner in a restaurant for people to see. Besides posting a photo, you can also leave a short text. For example to show that you can also eat outside at a restaurant. Or that the facade has been completely adapted. All this is possible without having to leave a review. This makes the threshold for posting lower.
Add streets
Finally, Google is going to make it possible to report map changes with a desktop editing tool. With that you can adjust cards by choosing ‘edit’ from the side menu. You can also use this tool to change the direction of a road, remove incorrect roads and add them again. It is also possible to rename the road if the information is no longer correct.
This is of course risky, soon everyone will make changes for fun. So Google will probably investigate road updates before they are published. The company will make the feature available in 80 countries next month.
