Updating AirPods not working? This is Apple’s bizarre solution
Apple has released yet another firmware update for the AirPods. Can’t update them? Then this is Apple’s bizarre solution to your problem.
Read on after the ad.
Updates for the AirPods
Just like for the iPhone and Mac, Apple regularly releases updates for the AirPods. It doesn’t matter whether you have the AirPods 2, Pro or Max, their software is updated secretly in the background. Often the updates only fix bugs, but every now and then new functions are added.
However, while installing an update for your iPhone directly from the Settings app, it’s not so easy for the AirPods. This usually happens in the background when your AirPods are connected to an iOS device with the latest update. But you read it already: ‘usually’! Because often enough that update is not installed. And then you have no idea what that is about.
Update solutions
Until now there were a number of standard solutions to force an update. The most important factor seems to be the charge level of the AirPods. If the AirPods are fully charged and connected to your iPhone, the update installation is more likely.
Doesn’t that work? Bee iPhoned We’ve also heard stories that resetting the AirPods and then re-pairing them can speed up the update process. That is of course a bit of a ‘brutal’ method. Fortunately, Apple now provides a solution for AirPods that do not want to update for the first time. Although this advice is a bit crazy.
AirPods not updating? Go to the Apple Store
If your AirPods just don’t want to update, it’s best to visit an Apple Store, according to Apple’s English support document. An authorized Apple service provider is also an option, such as Amac. In the store, the employees can apparently actively crank the update.
As mentioned, this is currently only on Apple’s English-language support page. In the Dutch support document, the paragraph about an appointment in the Apple Store has not yet been added. The document probably hasn’t been modified yet, but we’ll keep an eye on it.
Or if you want to help us: visit an Apple Store with your AirPods and ask if they can update the firmware. Then let us know in the comments if you succeeded.
