update shows new photos first

Instagram finally has a chronological overview again. After six years, the photo service has apparently had enough of all the criticism and you now have the option to view new photos first.

Read on after the ad.

Instagram update: photos chronologically again

It’s been a while since Instagram banned the original chronology. Since 2016 you have been shown messages via an algorithm. That algorithm determined which photos (and videos) were most relevant to you. This put those photos at the top of your overview.

Users were really not happy with it then (and up to and including the update). Fortunately, that has now changed and you now have the choice of how you want to view the overview. Instagram added this option in the most recent update. You must therefore first update Instagram to get the chronological overview in the app. Don’t know how to do that? Then read the article below.

View Instagram chronologically

When you have downloaded the update, you can choose which feed (or overview) you want to view in Instagram. You do this in the following way:

Set up and view Instagram chronological overview

  1. Open the Instagram app;
  2. Tap the Instagram logo at the top left;
  3. Then choose ‘Next’.

As you can see, you also have the option to choose ‘Favorites’. This will add accounts to a list of favorites. Handy if, for example, you want to view a feed with only photos of your friends.

Twitter chronologically: update rolled back

Twitter also had a new way to show the tweets a few updates ago. By default, you got an overview of recommended tweets and you had a separate tab to switch to the latest tweets.

After many complaints on… Twitter, the update was quickly rolled back. Now you have to click on the asterisk icon (top right) in Twitter. Then, just like with Instagram, you can switch between the chronological overview and the recommended tweets.
